New York Fashion Week Wrap Up: Top 6 Spring/Summer 2012 Collections

Derek Lam
One of the first designers to showcase for fashion week, Derek Lam premiered a classy and delightful line full of all the colors we look to spring for. Lam featured yellows and blues as seen above with abstract floral patterns. Showing his growth from his earlier designs understated with minimal color and off whites, Lam showed the fashion world he knows how to work a pattern.

Diane von Furstenberg
Staying true to form the Diane von Furstenberg show was all we expected it to be and more. Not sure if it’s a new partnership or if von Furstenberg was inspired by her past designs to extract what we all love about her line, but whatever it is we couldn’t get enough of her spring 2012 line. The line’s new sleek and stylish poise was received well amongst the lines showing this season. Particularly we enjoyed the two color floral prints and skirt suits.

Prabal Gurung
Purple lame, translucent techno fabrics set the tone for Prabal Gurung’s 1930’s style showing during fashion week. This is one designer who has his technique for mixing and matching fabrics on a whole other level. Throw in some tailored short suits and tie-dyed rubber and you get one of the most unique spring/summer 2012 collections for the coming season. Nicki Minaj sat front row with Anna Wintour to witness Prabal’s fashion brilliance in the making.

Jason Wu
It’s no wonder why Jason Wu is Michelle Obama’s designer of choice. During fashion week Wu presented a spring/summer 2012 collection full of color and fantasy frocks. The 50’s inspired hand-made line is highly marketable and no doubt will be greatly sought after this coming season. His youthful label is attractive to all women who can afford one of his fairytale designs. We enjoyed the Breakfast at Tiffany’s style skirts paired with simple tees.

Marc by Marc Jacobs
The most sought after American designers across the globe, Marc Jacobs made us tingle at New York fashion week. The thing that is so appealing about Marc Jacobs designs is that they look extremely accessible and wearable. It’s no surprise that Jacobs is all about the tailored design, so we receive a lot of this on the runway. We also saw color blocks with a desired clean, simple and natural style.

Carolina Herrera
An oldie but goodie, Carolina Herrera’s spring/summer 2012 collection left an impression on us this fashion week. The line overall was flowing and glamorous. Check out the sparrow print floor length dress above. We haven’t seen this done before and give Herrera a nod and a wink for mixing it up. Again dynamic duo, and newly found best buds, Anna Wintour and Nicki Minaj, sat front row together at the Herrera show. Is Nicki Minaj making a play for a Vouge cover? We think so!

So much fashion so little time. Thanks for keeping it locked at wikifashionista.com!
